RNs can specialize in a well-defined population. Nurses can choose to become a geriatric nurse; who work with elderly patients or a nurse in pediatrics; one who work with children. Nurses can also combine specialties – for example, a pediatric oncology nurse specializes in dealing with children and adolescents with cancer.
