Nursing School Degree Programs
Compared to many other degree programs, a nursing degree is much quicker to obtain and more widely available. There are more than 1,500 nursing programs in the U.S. There are three main types of nursing degree programs that will prepare you for various nursing careers once you graduate:
Associate's Degree in Nursing
The majority of nurses choose to embark on their education path by getting an Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN). This is a two-year program offered at many accredited community and junior colleges. Some colleges and universities also offer ADN degrees.
Hospital Diploma
A hospital diploma is a two- to three-year nursing program taught in a hospital setting. This program provides hands on training experience for the students. There are less nursing schools offering hospital diploma as compared to the 1960s; currently in the United States there are less than 100 schools offering hospital diplomas. Whether or not this option is right for you depends upon your career aspirations.
Bachelor of Science in Nursing
The Bachelors of Science in Nursing (BSN)is a four-year program, offered at colleges and universities. BSN graduates are prepared for leadership, management, and independent nursing roles. Advancement opportunities are greatest for the BSN graduate. A BSN is required for a master's degree in nursing program.
